Czech Technical University in Prague (CVUT)The Biocybernetics Group constitutes a part of Gerstner Laboratory for Intelligent Decision Making and Control at the Department of Cybernetics, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, CTU in Prague. The member groups participating in the K4CARE project are Dr. Lenka Lhotska (group leader), Dr. Jiri Klema (machine learning, processing of medical data), Dr. Michal Pechoucek (multi-agent systems), Dr. Jiri Kubalik (soft computing, processing of medical data), and Dr. Kamil Matousek (ontologies). Research activities within the Biocybernetics Laboratory are focused on design and development of advanced AI methods for medical data processing, knowledge acquisition & representation. Recently, specific attention has been given to the problems of application of fuzzy logic and machine learning to biological data processing, intelligent man-machine interface, medical decision-support systems and biological systems modelling. In 2000 the department became the Centre of Excellence – project MIRACLE (Machine Intelligence Research and Application Centre for Learning Excellence) supported by the EC under the 5th FP. Since 1990 the laboratory has successfully participated in many EU research ESPRIT, TEMPUS, TEN, EUREKA, INCO-COPERNICUS, 5FP and 6FP projects, and some national projects funded by the Ministry of Education. The Gerstner laboratory has established links to more than 20 universities/institutions world-wide under the scope of various types of collaborative projects/thematic networks (ILPNET II, AgentLink, EUNITE, KDNet etc.) and agreements. The Gerstner laboratory organized or was involved in organizing several international conferences, workshops and summer schools. Since 2001, the members of the project have published more than 10 papers in int. journals, more than 50 at int. conferences, and more than 15 at Czech conferences.
